I was travelling from Phoenix to Atlanta, and broke down with a head gasket problem in Gallup, NM. After staying overnight in Santa Rosa, I thought I had a recurrence of the problem. I checked the oil, and tried to look in the radiator, but couldn't open it.
(Long story shortened! Lots of panic & emotion removed!) When I got on the freeway, the car immediately began to overheat. I stopped and called my USAA Roadside Assistance. They sent out George, Jr. from Ortega's garage.
When George arrived, he immediately checked my car over, and verified that I DID NOT have any severe car problems. Then, "Where's the radiator cap?" I had inadvertantly loosened it, and it came off while I was driving -- thus the overheating problem.
George was so nice -- he didn't even laugh at me. He took my car (and the U-Haul trailer!) to his shop, where the mechanic checked everything again, test drove the car, and re-attached the trailer. They even gave me some handy driving hints for pulling a trailer!
So, if you ever break down in Santa Rosa, New Mexico, be sure to call George Jr. over at Ortega's! They're the best!
I do not recommend the other shop in town -- I had stopped by there earlier, and the mechanic wouldn't even look under my hood.
