Review 11/3/2011
Of all the computer makes and models I've dealt with over the years, the toughest and hardest to kill computers I've used are former Commodore Amigas (ancient history) and Apple Macintosh computers. The Macs Apple sells will cost more than many PC look-alikes or knock-offs, but the quality of components used and more user-friendly (functionally) and well-though clean/uncluttered (artistically and ergonomically) designs make them systems that survive longer, retain higher values longer, and become obsolete much more slowly in terms of user-useability. Advanced gamers who want the fastest whatever that is available period right now probably won't favor Apple computers because Apple isn't the first to adopt the fastest highest frame rate video scheme. That just isn't their focus and Macs aren't marketed for that. But if your priority for purchasing is a reliable machine that doesn't become a pile of electric garbage due to design flaws that don't get recalled or virus-infested bug-plagued operating systems and you want to patronize only companies where customer service philosophy is top rate including well-educated thoughtful native local english speaking customer support, as opposed to outsourced "support" from hard to understand non-local scripted zombies from the other side of the planet and you would also like to deal with an ethical company that both cares for its employees, the conditions of the employees and cares greatly for the protection of our global and local environment, then Apple is the computer manufacturer you should pick. Nobody else compares. I have gone in with things to complain about at their retail stores that very well could have been user-caused, or normal wear-related items and they have 9 out of 10 times replaced the items or repaired them at no cost and with no run-around. Of course I don't go to them without first doing my homework online. I've never seen a company try so hard to please its customers. You definitely get what you pay for... and often you will find you get more than you expected in a most pleasant way if you experience a problem with an Apple product and politely ask for remedies to whatever dissatisfies you with their product––many times even well outside of warrantee periods depending on the kind of problem.. In ten years now dealing with Apple, of 6 times I took a computer back to them for any kind of "doesn't work right" or "broken" complaint, 5 times of 6 I paid nothing at all for the service or replacement. 3 of 3 times with my iPhone problems even they no-questions asked replaced my phone instantly--one time was even a cracked screen that was probably my fault for a short drop but because I had it in a protective case when it hit, they replaced it. I can't ask for better customer support than I have received from them. In short, time and time again, their customer service more than anything combined with their unbeaten software and elegant, thoughtful and many times unique unduplicated hardware features (like light and motion sensors that make thoughtful operational changes to suite conditions, discrete latches or even simply magnetic "latches" that don't break or catch on things, power plugs that simply detach under stress rather than trip people and break laptops), and more.... are reasons I give Apple a five star rating and will recommend them above their competitors I have also worked with and would rate nowhere near five nor even four stars. The rest all fall down on the job pretty bad when it comes to design durability / lasting value, ethical supply / employer conduct, environmental concerns and quality of customer service.
